Today we headed to Whipsnade Zoo for the first time which meant we had to leave home at 5:45 to get there before opening as well as leaving time to have a break if we needed to have a break. We ended up going straight to the zoo and we were way early as we arrived at 8:30 and the café didn't open till 9:30 and zoo until 10am so we sat in the car for a while before heading over.
After we got into the zoo we met our friends Joan and Sonya at the lynx's where the lynx where hiding in the bushes so decided we would continue to the next animal which was the Ring tailed lemur which we stayed to hear the talk while they were trying to get the lemurs out for the food.
After the lemur talk we headed to the chimpanzees as they are best seen at feed time so we went along to their talk which was really interesting and introduced us to their group of chimps.
We then went to see the Brown bears while their talk was going on which was great to watch the bears walking around and playing in the water.
We then went to meet their two types of penguins- Rock hopper and African penguin.
We then were heading to the hippo enclosure when we spotted that the Sloth bears were out which is unusual. So we stopped to get a few photos of them.
After the Sloth bears we went to see the hippos which was perfect timing as the adult female was playing with the young hippo.
We then went to the cheetahs where they were all asleep so only managed one photo of them.
We then went to the animal that we came for which was the Amur tigers as they have three 10 week old cubs. When we got there they were asleep but waited for a while when one of them woke up and went to see the adult female tiger.
When the tigers went back to sleep we decided we would go and see the deers in the deer park where there are several species of deer in and when we went there was a big group of deer in the water.
We then headed to the elephant enclosure when on the way we spotted one of their free roaming maras.
We then headed to the butterfly house which is one of the best Butterfly houses I have ever been to with loads of butterflies and different types.
We then headed back to the tigers for the rest of the day in hope they would wake up which they did and put on a performance.
We then headed back to the car to go for tea and then stay overnight to come back to the zoo the day after.
